Mary’s Shell on Cleveleys Beach is a striking piece of coastal artwork best appreciated at low tide. I photographed it in both color and monochrome, and I do prefer the monochrome version the high contrast really emphasizes the shell’s textures against the surrounding sand and rock.

Technical details:

  • Exposure: 2 minutes, which smoothed the sea into a soft, mist like foreground and rendered the sky with streaky motion from passing clouds.

  • Effect: The long exposure isolates the shell, giving it a sculptural presence and a timeless, minimalist feel.

  • Composition: Low vantage point to foreground the shell and capture reflections and wet sand texture.

Monochrome works well here because it removes color distractions and highlights shape, tone, and contrast qualities that make Mary’s Shell read as an emblematic object in the landscape rather than just a beach feature.

I only use professional cameras and printing equipment, process the images myself and take great pride in the final product.

 Please note on ordering your print, do you require a border or a borderless print, please note the following:

  • Border: The full image will be preserved with no loss of picture area. A white edge will surround the image to match the print dimensions.

  • Borderless: The image is printed to the paper edges. To fill the entire final print, the image may be cropped to a different aspect ratio, resulting in some loss of the original image edges.

  • The white border if selected allows for easier framing and ensures the integrity of the photograph’s composition is preserved (e.g., A4, A3, A3+).

Packaging:

Your print will be carefully packaged to ensure it arrives in perfect condition. Smaller prints are shipped flat in sturdy, protective envelopes, while larger prints may be rolled and sent in a durable tube for added protection.
